KU WON A ROAD GAME

HOLY SHIT.

HOLY SHIT.

HOLY SHIT.

HOLY SHIT.

HOLY SHIT.

HOLY SHIT.

IT HAPPENED

I genuinely did not expect this day to come. I figured it’d have to, but I never, like, actually thought I’d see Kansas win a road game. But they did it. The Jayhawks did it. They won a road game.

IT HAPPENED

46 straight games. Nine years. Trips to Rice, Duke, Ohio University, and Iowa State once every year. Until today, the last time Kansas had won a road game, Todd Reesing started at quarterback. Mark Parkinson was the governor of the state. The Black Eyed Peas were still together. I looked like this. . The Zune HD had just come out. Friday Night Lights, The Office, The Cleveland Show, and iCarly were still on the air. Mark Mangino was the head coach. Idaho had a program in FBS, and Appalachian State didn’t. BTK was not yet… okay wait I just checked and yeah BTK was in jail by that point. Gary Coleman was still living.

On September 12th, 2009, the day that the streak started, Kanye West and Taylor Swift were simply two musicians who had never really interacted before. The next night, undeniably still reeling from the joy of the Jayhawks’ big win over UTEP in El Paso, Kanye got up on stage and interrupted Swift’s “Best Female Video” speech.

September 8th, 2018 ends a nearly decade long streak. Perhaps it begins a new one. Perhaps I’ll post this same exact thing in nine years. I’ll be like “Peyton Bender was the quarterback, that JUICE WRLD song was topping the charts, Jason Bateman was still alive, etc, etc, etc.”

But, for now, the streak is over. The streak is over. The streak is over.

Now, it is time to celebrate. And by celebrate, I mean “Do homework that I put off doing this week in the public library.”
